Vinyl flooring

Domestic vinyl flooring comes in rolls which are either 2m, 3m or 4m wide. It's suitable for areas that are likely to get wet, such as kitchens, bathrooms and en-suites. It’s usually fitted to a concrete floor that’s been smoothed with a latex-bonded screed or a wooden floor that’s been ply-boarded, and we can carry out the correct preparation for you. The patterns for vinyl flooring can be a wood effect, plain/mottled, ceramic tile effect or a quite highly patterned design, depending on your personal taste.

Wet room flooring

As covered in the commercial flooring section, these vinyls are also available in a non-slip barefoot surface which is ideal for any wet rooms or changing rooms. The areas will typically have the drain set into the floor, with the subfloor sloping towards the drain hole. In these areas, the vinyl can be curved up the wall (with cap and cove fitted) to meet the wall tiles or wall cladding with a jointing strip. This will give the walls and flooring a waterproof seal. A special waterproof adhesive is also used to glue the vinyl flooring down.

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring

Luxury vinyl tiles come in wood plank or herringbone wood, stone, slate, granite or marble effect, and with or without a bevel. A huge selection of colours and designs is available, with a wide range of price points reflecting their quality and depending on the manufacturer. Luxury vinyl tiles are extremely versatile and can be laid in any direction. This means that if you wanted a special design we can create bespoke patterns for you and design something truly unique to your home. This also means that should you damage one of the pieces of the floor then just that piece can be replaced.

Preparation required for LVT floors or vinyl flooring

Wood floors/floorboards

These floors are always overlaid with 6mm ply-board according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, even if your floor appears to be in good condition. If you’re having vinyl laid this doesn’t always need ply-boarding first but we can advise on this once we've seen the existing subfloor.

Concrete floor

This is known in the trade as ‘screeding' or 'latexing’. We usually do this before laying flooring such as vinyl or LVT because it promotes a smooth and consistent floor level with a clean and hard surface giving the best finish to your new floor.
