Aftercare

A regular aftercare routine will help to give your carpets and flooring a longer life. This could be as simple as vacuuming your new hard floor or carpet on a regular basis or using the correct cleaning fluid on your new vinyl or wooden floors.

Carpets

Vacuum your carpets regularly to remove gritty dirt that can damage the fibres. Deal with spillages immediately using towels or kitchen roll to remove excess fluid, and then treat the remaining stain. For woollen carpets we recommend that you use cleaning products which display the Woolsafe logo. If in doubt it’s best to call a professional carpet cleaner rather than try to remove a stain yourself as this could actually prevent the professional from being able to safely remove the stain.

Laminate

Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to remove dust or debris as this is what will likely cause any scratches. For a small spillage, use a soft cloth as soon as possible after it occurs. For regular cleaning, use a micro-fibre mop and a recommended laminate flooring cleaner. You don't want to be applying any type of polish or a cleaner that’s recommended for real wooden floors.

Luxury vinyl tiles (LVT)

Luxury vinyl tiles won't split, chip, crack or splinter, and they're one of the hardest-wearing flooring products available, making them also one of the easiest to maintain. Sweep or vacuum them regularly to remove any dust or debris that could cause minor surface scratches. Mop them with warm water and a splash of vinyl floor cleaner, having spoken to us about getting a brand-specific cleaning kit ready for when we install your new flooring.

Vinyls

Sweep or vacuum your vinyl floor regularly – ideally avoiding a vacuum with a beater bar as that can cause damage – because dust and sand can damage your vinyl. Mop with warm water and then rinse with fresh water. Some cleaning products may be suitable, but always read the manufacturer’s instructions before using them as the cleaner should be specifically for vinyl flooring.

Solid or engineered wood

Regularly sweep, mop or vacuum with a lightweight vacuum cleaner, as small amounts of grit or dirt can cause minor scratches that will build up over time. Too much water makes wood swell, so always squeeze your mop out thoroughly. Wood can fade if it’s exposed to bright sunlight, so avoid this by closing curtains or blinds or by placing mats in the vulnerable areas. If you need to use a floor cleaner, make sure it’s an accredited oil or lacquer floor cleaner depending on the floor you have. Protection for your hard floors

Whether we've just installed a new LVT, vinyl, laminate or wood floor for you, there's one product that we'll always recommend you use to help keep them looking like new and that is felt pads. Felt pads should be used underneath any furniture that'll be used on top of your new hard floors, as this will not only make it easier for you to move the furniture or appliances around but will also help to prevent any scratches as well.
